Gallery 1 | Beauty Emerging through Transformation

The process of creating something often involves numerous considerations and changes before reaching completion. The pursuit of beauty is like a journey of exploration, refinement, and occasional setbacks, ultimately leading to the realization of a masterpiece.

In this exhibition, we showcase designs and sketches where traces of alterations made during the production process by Chiso are visible. We invite you to examine how these changes have influenced the final outcome.

You will be able to compare the finished fabrics and their hand-drawn designs of kimono on display to observe any differences in expression. In the case of the sketches for the artistic textile titled “Peacock,” there are visible traces of multiple sketches where only the angles and expressions of the face and body parts were altered and reconsidered on separate pieces of paper. These papers will be exhibited alongside the rough drawing.

What kind of intentions can we discover behind these alterations? Contemplate the resulting manifestations of beauty that emerged as a result of change.
