Nagasawa Fu solo Exhibition "Folk Fog" | gallery 2

Chiso Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Nagasawa Fu .

Nagasawa’s practice begins with motifs such as plants and animals found in folk crafts and paintings, from which he extracts forms and colors and elevates them into his own works. His gaze is directed not toward individual authorship or a perfected notion of beauty, but rather toward images that have been repeated and passed down through many hands over time.

“Just a short walk from my studio, a flea market is held once a month. In the cafes and restaurants of this town, I often notice tableware that seems to have been found at such markets. Even for those who are not collectors, there seems to be a shared habit of gathering and using old objects they feel drawn to.
My paintings, too, exist in close proximity to everyday life. Depicting familiar birds and plants is neither new nor extraordinary, yet these paintings share a presence—both mine and not mine.”— Nagasawa Fu

The 2026 theme of Chiso Gallery, “Unravel, Then Gather,” reflects an approach of loosening existing notions of beauty and value, and reconnecting them to new forms of creation. Nagasawa’s works—reexamining forms embedded in everyday life and reconstructing them through his own sensibility—quietly resonate with this theme.

We invite you to experience his works, which gently stir memory and perception.
